A mafia don from the ‘Ndrangheta crime family, an organized crime syndicate based in the southern Italian city of Calabria, was arrested in a bunker, announced Piero Grasso, head of Italy’s national anti-mafia directorate, on Wednesday.
Bulgaria is losing over 750 million Bulgarian Lev (BGN)($500 million) annually in VAT fraud said the National Revenue Agency on Wednesday.
Bulgaria extradited 19 suspected credit card fraudsters to Italy on Tuesday, said the Interior Ministry. The individuals, all Bulgarian nationals, are accused of participating in an organized crime ring that defrauded EU card holders of over €50 million from bank accounts in EU countries.
Mexican Federal Police arrested five suspected members Friday of a kidnapping and extortion ring called the Los Cabezas de Puerco (Hog Heads) gang based in Mexico City.. Among those arrested was the gang’s alleged leader Eduardo Sanchez Zuñiga, 39, nicknamed “El Bla Bla.”

Meanwhile, Dutch police arrested six people in the Netherlands suspected of being members of an international drug trafficking ring that tried to the illicit cargo. The seizure was the largest in the UK’s history.
The highly anticipated trial of the Former President of Egypt, Hosni Mubarak, began in Cairo on Wednesday. Mubarak is being charged for rampant corruption under his 30 year rule in order to amass wealth. He is also charged with murder for ordering the mass killing of protestors during an 18 day uprising against his regime in February.
