Established in October 2000, Energy Holding is the biggest Romanian private electricity trader and has been recently expanding its activities across the Balkans.

Energy Holding is owned by the Swiss based Societe Bancaire Prive SA (SBP: http://www.sbp-banque.com/temp/sbp_fr_1_a1.sbp ) and Atell Investments Ltd., a company based in Cyprus (see company records-Energy_Holding_Companies). In the summer of 2006, SBP replaced another Swiss company, Energy Consult SA.

Romanian citizen Nicolae Bogdan Buzaianu established Energy Consult SA s an anonymous Swiss company in 1998. Buzaianu started other energy trading-related commercial enterprises in Switzerland, including Aspell Magnus SA, a company that has changed its name five times. He has jointly held companies with a former minister in the Republic of Moldova, Constantin Iavorski, who has also jointly held companies with the Russian oligarch Roman Abramovich.

In 2005, Energy Holding established an energy trading company in Bulgaria called Energy Partners. Recently EH announced it had established a subsidiary in Serbia, Energy Holding SR, and said it has been granted an energy trading license in Serbia.

The National Anticorruption Department (DNA) in Romania launched an investigation of Energy Holding in 2006 after the managers of two of the most important state-owned electricity producers, the Turceni and Rovinari power plants, were fired for allegedly selling electricity at below market prices.
