Italy: Sex and Drug Traffickers Arrested

Italian police arrested 14 Albanian citizens on Wednesday who were allegedly part of a ring involved in the trafficking of women and drugs across Europe.

The group allegedly brought women from Eastern Europe to Milan to engage in sex work, and then use the proceeds to buy cocaine in the Netherlands and resell it in Italy, Italy's State Police said in a statement.

The suspects allegedly obtained young women from Albania, Romania, Moldova, the Czech Republic and Ukraine.

Officials have not released the names of the suspects.

Italian media reported that investigators first became aware of the group in Jan. 2015. In March of that year, two members of the group were arrested in with five kilograms of cocaine in their car.
