The Dinamo Football Association, set up by the communist Ministry of Interior in 1948, is one of the most important teams in Romanian football. Dinamo has won the Cup of Romania a dozen times. In 1956, it was the first team to participate in the European Championship Cup, then a year-old.
One shareholder, Florian Walter, who controls Romprest, a security and waste disposal company, was charged with loan sharking in 2005, along with Mihai Sireteanu, a former Social Democrat party deputy. Prosecutors said he changed his name from Busca to Walter to get a contract with the U.S. military.
Club President Nicolae Badea, the son-in-law of a former communist vice premier, and shareholder Cristian Borcea are involved in a scandal concerning player transfers to teams abroad. In August, anti-corruption prosecutors presented Borcea with the indictment act, a preliminary to court. Former shareholder and club vice-president Gheorghe Netoiu is also involved in this case. The men are charged with tax evasion, money laundry and fraud.
Another shareholder, Dragos Savulescu, 35, owns luxury cars and a watch collection valued in the millions of Euros. He has built a business based on contracts with public administration. He is under indictment by anti-corruption prosecutors along with the mayor of Constanta for a real estate scam and is a principal in the Borcea case as well.
