Major Colombian Trafficker Sentenced

Christian "Tony" Fernando Borda, 49, received a 25-year prison sentence for cocaine trafficking, the US Department of Justice announced Monday. Borda, a trafficker with ties to Colombian paramilitary groups, was convicted in 2010 of conspiracy to distribute five kilograms or more of cocaine. His sentence comes with an additional 10 years of probation and a USD $6.5 million fine.

Poland: Seven charged with corruption over shale gas exploitation

Polish prosecutors charged four government officials and three gas company representatives with corruption Monday, according to GlobalPost. A Warsaw prosecution spokesman announced that three of the officials were from the environmental ministry and the fourth was from the Polish Geological Institute. The firms involved were not specified.

The accused face 11 charges of active and passive corruption involving bribery. The bribes reportedly ranged from USD $4,000 -$17,000 and the accused may face up to eight years in prison if found guilty.

Kelmendi To Be Freed, Lawyer Says

Balkan drug lord Naser Kelmendi will not be extradited to Bosnia to face trial, according to a statement from his lawyer issued on Monday. Kelmendi is being held in Kosovo after his arrest in May and remains wanted in Bosnia and Herzegovina.

France: Kazakh opposition politician arrested

French police arrested Mukhtar Ablyazov, a former Kazakh energy minister and the head of troubled bank BTA, in the village of Mouans-Sartoux on Wednesday, according to the BBC. Ablyazov said the charges he faces have been fabricated to discredit him. He is accused by law enforcement in Kazakhstan of embezzling over US$6 billion dollars from BTA and having connections with organized crime.

Jailors Jailed in Tuzla

Eleven people including four prison officials were arrested in Tuzla, Bosnia and Herzegovina on Monday on suspicion of drug trafficking.
