Crypto, SLAPPs, and Dark Money: OCCRP’s Drew Sullivan and Paul Radu Discuss the Year Ahead in Global Crime and Corruption

Announcement

OCCRP Co-Founders Drew Sullivan and Paul Radu will talk about trends in the world of illicit money flows in a webinar on December 14.

December 1, 2022

We’re living in a pivotal moment for investigative journalism and the anti-corruption movement.

Our co-founders, Drew Sullivan and Paul Radu, will share insights and answer questions about the constantly evolving world of transnational crime and corruption in a live discussion on December 14, from 11 a.m. to 12 p.m. EST.

This event is open to OCCRP Accomplices — you can join by becoming one here. Contributions go directly toward funding our global network of investigative journalists.

Moderated by OCCRP Deputy Editor in Chief Julia Wallace, the webinar will focus on trends in organized crime and corruption and what Sullivan and Radu predict for the year ahead. This includes:

  • New criminal trends, especially online

  • How the Russian invasion of Ukraine has affected journalism in the region

  • Impact from our Suisse Secrets investigation, which exposed problematic clients of Swiss banking giant Credit Suisse

  • Impact from our Russian Asset Tracker project that exposed the assets of Vladimir Putin’s allies

  • The European Court of Justice’s stunning ruling against public access to “ultimate beneficial ownership” databases

  • How journalists are investigating repressive governments around the world

  • Strategies employed by criminal syndicates to attack democratic systems

We’ll also highlight bright spots on the horizon, like “OCCRP SLAPPs Back,” our new in-house legal defense fund that will help us fight back against frivolous lawsuits that aim to silence critical reporting. Decades of experience on the front lines of covering crime and corruption, along with the power of the OCCRP network, give Sullivan and Radu a distinctive world perspective.

A Zoom registration link will be sent once you sign up for the event. Please note that participant information will remain anonymous, even for those who ask questions at the event.
