Studio Monitori reporter wins EU prize

Nana Biganishvili, a reporter for OCCRP partner Studio Monitori in the Republic of Georgia, has won a European Union (EU) Prize for Journalism for her report on citizens’ efforts to block development in Tbilisi’s Vake Park.

trophyShe was one of five Georgian journalists honored for their professional standards and ethics and for helping promote a better understanding of the values of the European Union.

Biganishvili’s video report won for Best TV/Radio report. Other winners were Sopho Aptsiauri, www.liberali.ge; Lasha Bughadze of Radio Liberty, http://www.rferl.org/section/georgia/155.html; the Kakheti Info Center, www.ick.ge; and Goga Aptsiauri, www.media.ge.

All winners received the Crystal Globe Trophy and 3,500 GEL (US$ 1,864).

The ceremony was followed by a concert featuring violinist Anna Tifu accompanied by the Tbilisi Opera and Ballet Theatre Symphony Orchestra conducted by Gianluca Marcianò. This is the third year the EU prize has been offered.
