Training Manager
Nils Hanson is OCCRP’s training manager, responsible for identifying and meeting training needs across our network of journalists and member centers. Nils has 40 years of experience as a reporter and editor, including as editor in chief of Mission Investigate, a leading Swedish investigative television news program, from 2003 to 2018. At Mission Investigate, he oversaw more than 500 investigations. During his last two years alone, Mission Investigate’s work won 10 international awards, including an Emmy. Nils has himself won seven investigative journalism awards and received an honorary doctorate at the University of Gothenburg in 2015. His handbook on investigative journalism has become a classic in Sweden. He is also co-author of “Story-Based Inquiry: A Manual for Investigative Journalists.” More recently, Nils has been freelancing as a reporter and editor and has helped several newsrooms in Sweden organize their investigative work. He is also the program director for The Summer School On Investigative Reporting in Riga, Latvia.
