Jared focuses on generating exclusive and investigative news across OCCRP’s global network. Previously, he spent almost five years editing and coordinating investigations, including award-winning projects like the Russian Asset Tracker, which received the European Press Prize. Jared was a foreign correspondent for more than a decade before joining OCCRP, reporting from countries including Afghanistan, Guinea-Bissau and Sri Lanka. He got his start in Vancouver, where he worked with a daily newspaper, and news radio.
As Asia Editor for The New Humanitarian, Jared’s stories exposing the Myanmar government’s attempts to cover up military attacks against Rohingya civilians won recognition from the Society of Publishers in Asia, and the UN Correspondents Association. Jared was a correspondent for Bloomberg in South Sudan, reporting on oil, conflict and hope during the country’s first years as an independent nation. He also worked with Reuters in Myanmar, where he covered the start of the country’s decade-long experiment with democracy, before it returned to military rule.
