The National Integrity Commission (CNI), the official body tasked with checking the validity of the mandatory wealth and property declarations of Moldova’s government members, initiated the  investigation after RISE Moldova revealed apparent violations of the law.

RISE Moldova listed 10 government officials who, according to their investigation, are suspected of owning undeclared commercial enterprises. While six ministers are being formally investigated, the other four cases are being analyzed by the CNI.

One of the six officials under investigation is the Minister of Internal Affairs, Dorin Recean. Apart from his alleged undeclared ownership, the CNI is also analyzing a potential conflict of interest between his position in government and as an administrator for a commercial company.

The other cases follow similar patterns, according to investigators.
