Immigration & Checkpoints Authority officers stopped two of the men, aged 20 and 29, as they were attempting to cross the Woodlands Checkpoint in a car registered in Malaysia. The checkpoint crosses the Strait of Johor, separating Singapore from the southern tip of Malaysia.
Officers found 16 bundles (3.2kg) of heroin worth $336,000 and two packages of “Ice” or crystal meth worth $37,000 in the door panel and behind the car radio.
An hour later, the two other suspects, a man and a woman, attempted to pass through the checkpoint in a car also registered in Malaysia. They were arrested.
The first two men are being investigated for drug trafficking and if convicted, they may face the death penalty. The second pair is also being investigated.
