A Russian bard and musician who publicly criticized Russia’s invasion of Ukraine died after falling from the window of his 10th-floor apartment during a police search, the independent Russian human rights group OVD-Info reported Thursday.
Vadim Stroykin, 59, a writer, singer, and guitar teacher, was under investigation for allegedly participating in a terrorist organization linked to donations for Ukrainian soldiers, according to multiple reports. If convicted, he faced up to 20 years in prison, Mash media outlet reported.
Stroykin’s death is yet another in line of bizarre deaths of well known Russians, including businessmen, journalists, artists… in the last several years, especially following the Russian “special operation” in Ukraine, unleashed in February 2022.
Stroykin’s death is the latest in a string of mysterious and often fatal incidents involving prominent Russian figures, including businessmen, journalists, and artists, particularly since the Kremlin launched its so-called “special military operation” in Ukraine in February 2022.
Since 2012, more than 4,000 Russians have faced politically motivated criminal prosecution, according to OVD-Info, highlighting the increasing risks for those who challenge the government’s actions.
