Israel’s Attorney General’s Office confirmed that Sara Netanyahu, wife of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, has been under investigation since late December for alleged witness intimidation and obstruction of justice in her husband’s ongoing corruption case. The confirmation came in response to an inquiry from Knesset Member Naama Lazimi.
The investigation, led by the Israeli Police and the cybercrimes unit of the State Attorney’s Office, was launched after Channel 12’s investigative program Uvda aired reports alleging that Sara Netanyahu instructed her husband's former aide, Hanni Bleiweiss, to coordinate protests and an online smear campaign against Hadas Klein, a key witness in one of the corruption cases against the Prime Minister.
The Uvda report presented a series of WhatsApp messages in which Sara Netanyahu allegedly directed Bleiweiss to organize efforts against Klein. Following the broadcast, Prime Minister Netanyahu released a video defending his wife, highlighting her past charitable work and dismissing the allegations as "false propaganda, nasty propaganda that brings up lies from the darkness."
Knesset Member Naama Lazimi underscored the significance of the investigation for parliamentary oversight and the rule of law. In a social media post on Platform X, she referred to Sara Netanyahu as a "convicted felon" who had sought to undermine prosecutors and discredit witness Hadas Klein.
The investigation adds further legal pressure on Sara Netanyahu while also intensifying scrutiny on the Prime Minister’s inner circle. The case comes at a politically sensitive time, with Netanyahu facing widespread public dissent amid the ongoing war.
