The International Center for Journalists, ICFJ, bestowed its Knight Trailblazer Award 2024 on Rana Sabbagh, senior editor for the MENA region at the OCCRP, for her pioneering role in building a vibrant investigative journalism movement across the Arab world to expose wrongdoing among officials.

In over two-thirds of the world, the media is “constrained,” “seriously impeded” or “totally blocked,” and since the COVID-19 pandemic broke out, journalists have been harassed, imprisoned and killed, Reporters Without Borders (RSF) concluded after reviewing press freedom in 180 countries.
